HISTORY OF MAHAPATIH GAJAH MADA
HISTORY OF MAHAPATIH GAJAH MADA
Gajah Mada was able to bring Majapahit to glory, even so in the early days of Hayam Wuruk's rise to the throne, Gajah Mada was involved in the scandal of the murder of the King and Princess of Sunda in the Bubat Massacre.
A group of Sundanese people who were about to marry off their king's daughter were stopped in Bubat and forced to submit to Majapahit so that an unequal war occurred, this incident occurred in 1357 AD.
Then in 1358 AD, Gajah Mada retired from political affairs, and he exiled himself to a remote area called Mada Karipura. However, in 1359 Gajah Mada was reappointed as Mahapatih because Hayam Wuruk had not found someone like Gajah Mada.
ORIGIN OF GAJAH MADA
The story of Gajah Mada's origin is told in several Babad that are young, also comes from the assumptions of historians.
In the Babad Manuscript from Bali, one of which is the Usana Jawa Book, Gajah Mada was born in Bali, while according to Muhamad Yamin, a Sumatran historian who was so fascinated by the greatness of Majapahit, Gajah Mada came from Sumatra.
Over time, where the Gajah Mada Inscription has been found, the origin of Gajah Mada that is close to the truth began to be revealed.
The Gajah Mada Inscription or also called the Singasari Inscription was made by Gajah Mada himself, it contains the year 1214 Saka or 1351 AD when Gajah Mada served as Mahapatih Amangkubhumi Majapahit. The inscription contains about "Parwira Chatiya" or a commemoration of respect for Tribhuawana Tunggadewi and the ancestors of Majapahit (Descendants of Prabu Kertanegara-Singsari) who have been enshrined.
According to the interpretation of experts on the Singasari Inscription, Gajah Mada was the son of Gajah Pagon who was the grandson of King Kertanegara Singasari, thus between Gajah Mada and Tribhuawana Tunggadewi (Queen of Majapahit) are still both descendants of Prabu Kertanegara. Because Tribhuawana Tunggadewi was the son of Raden Wijaya where Raden Wijaya's wife (Gayatri) was the daughter of Prabu Kertanegara (the Last King of Singasari), while Gajah Pegon, the father of Gajah Mada, was the husband of Prabu Kertanegara's grandson who was born from a concubine. (Sri Winata Ahmad, p. 194)
Thus, that Gajah Mada's Struggle was not from 0 because he was a relative of the King (Blue Blood). Therefore, his career as a Bhayangkara Soldier was a nepotism career at the beginning.
If we refer to the Jaya Negara Escape Incident that was saved by Gajah Mada, it is known that at that time Gajah Mada was only 20 years old, this means that at around the age of 15 to 16 Gajah Mada began to plunge as a Bhayangkara Soldier, the position he held at that time as a bekel or squad leader.
